*Army (8-1) Once again, senior Kelsey Minato recorded an academy milestone in Army’s 71-35 road win over NJIT on Friday, becoming the first player in program history to reach the 2,000-point mark when she sank a trey just 1:29 into the game. Minato went on to tally her seventh 20-point game of the season and finished with 22 points, going 7-of-13 from the field and 5-of-10 from downtown. She also added a career-high-tying four steals. As a team, the Black Knights shot 50.0 percent (25-of-50) from the field for the third-consecutive game. With the win, they’re 8-1 record is the team’s best beginning mark since doing the same in 2012-13. Joining Minato in double-figures was classmate Aimee Oertner, who pitched in 11 points (5-of-6) in addition to eight rebounds. Friday’s contest with the Highlanders also marked the first-ever meeting between the two teams
*Holy Cross (3-7) With a 16-5 second quarter run, Holy Cross led Manhattan 30-17 at the half. The Crusaders held off the Jaspers the rest of the way, not allowing them to cut the deficit to single digits. Senior guard Lisa Mifsud, appearing in her 100th collegiate game, had a game-high 14 points which included a 4-of-6 mark from beyond the arc, helping Holy Cross to a 58-44 home victory over Manhattan. Mifsud also moved into ninth place in program history with 118 career three-pointers made. Classmate Molly Hourigan also made moves on the program’s all-time list, as well as the League’s, with 2-1 career blocked-shots. She is tied for second in the Crusaders’ history books and tied for eighth in the Leagues’. As a team, Holy cross shot 45.7 percent from the field (21-of-46) and produced a season-high 50.00 percent from downtown (8-of-16). The Crusaders also turned 21 Jasper turnovers into 21 points.
*Navy (5-5) After coming out with an explosive 21-point first quarter, the Mids went into the break leading Kansas 34-22. The Jayhawks chipped away at Navy’s lead and a layup with just 46 seconds left in regulation knotted the score, sending it into overtime, 52-52. During the extra period, the Mids struggled to connect in the field and were only able to convert on two free throws, while the home team was 2-of-5 from the floor and made 5-of-6 from the line for a 61-54 win. Sophomore Taylor Dunham led Navy with 24 points, scoring 20 in the opening 20 minutes of play. She was 6-of-9 from three-point territory and also collected six boards and three assists. Junior Sarita Condie also reached double figures in scoring, netting 10 in addition to pulling in seven rebounds.
*Colgate (1-7) The Raiders dropped to 1-7 on the season after falling to Gonzaga on Sunday at home, 80-50. Colgate had a season-high 10 players in the scoring column and matched a season best 12 turnovers. The Raiders were also 11-of-16 at the line to the Bulldogs’ 5-of-13. It marked the first time this season that Colgate attempted more free throw than its opponent. Senior Paige Kriftcher led the offense, for the fourth time this season, with 11 points which included a pair of three-pointers. Classmates Josei Stockill and Randyll Butler both hauled in four rebounds, while Butler also dished out four assists.
*Boston University (0-8) The Terriers edged out Marist in boards, 34-33, to finish a contest with more rebounds than any opponent so far this season but were unable to hold off the Red Foxes’ scoring efforts. Boston University dropped Saturday afternoon’s home contest to the visitors, 73-54. Junior Meghan Green led BU with a season-high 22 points and was just one point shy of her personal best, while sophomore Kara Sheftic collected a career-high 10 boards to lead the team.
All ten Patriot League teams will take a three-day break for final exams. Non-League action will resume on Thursday, Dec. 17 when American and Lehigh hit the road to take on Dartmouth and Rider, respectively. Both games have a tipoff time of 7 p.m.
